When I start on a complicated piece full of information that needs to be displayed effectively in a visually stimulating way, I begin with organizing all points into common "buckets." I determine which information can be collected together as one topic point, with a corresponding visual. I play around on paper first, sketching out possible layouts for the message I want to convey. I then form these ideas into shape, color, and brief text within the program, such as the example below.
